RB, this is from 6 days prior, and it's simply EXTRORDINARY! The best, yes best Darkstar from '72 into a gorgeous Morning Dew. This is a pretty new Aud copy, supposedly from Bear. Breathtaking! http://www.archive.org/details/gd1972-11-13.aud.owsley.gems.105812.flac16

Great Find. Listening right this second. Owsley had the best taste in recording of any, including Betty and Kidd, who each made great tapes. Owsley is on another planet, with his mic placement and board control...

why no Europe 72? Their greatest tour ever! Heard too much looking for something different? Surely it can't be you don't like that tour.

this DS has taken me out there more than once

Be sure to check out 10/18/72. It's got the very first playin' sandwich; a stunning playin > drums > dark star > morning dew > playin. I believe the dark star has a feelin' groovy jam near the end, but I might be confused.

I think the whole Berkeley Community Theatre run in August would make a great box set. Any and all of the shows are worth checking out!
Other favorites are 9/10/72, 9/26/72,and 12/10/72. I like about all the shows from the entire year.

Here is an article written in 1972 about the BCT shows in August:

Thanks for the RS article, SkyDawg. I particularly enjoyed the line "Bill Kreutzman has mellowed out over the years as a drummer and really swings his ass off." Journalism, 1972-style....

Lets not forget 9/21/72-Great show with a Mind numbing DS>Dew. Also 9/27/72 from the Stanley Theatre-Show opens with Morning Dew and there is a jazz/space DS>Cumberland that cannot be missed.Late march of 72 they played a seven night run at The Academy of Music (a warm-up for Europe) Not all the shows are great and most of the recordings are shit. Mr. Miller cleaned one up cannot remember the exact date but it's here at the archive.

9/21 is one of my favorites as well. the dark star is indeed incredible - it's vast and jazzy and has some really beautiful moments. some people take issue with it in that it never really hits on any particular theme until the last 8 minutes or so, but i think it benefits from that. it goes places in a serious way.

also, the rest of the show is spectacular. one of the best bird songs, one of the best NFA -> GDTRFB -> NFA's, and a really killer playin in the band.
